Week 2: A record night
Shai McKenzie passed another milestone Friday night in Washington’s 48-13 victory over Southmoreland at Wash High Stadium. McKenzie rushed for 218 yard and moved into first place on the school’s career rushing yardage list with 4,658. Brian Davis had the record at 4,480 yards in 1984. The victory moved the Prexies to 2-0 on the season.
Meanwhile, quarterbacks had some big games last night. Fort Cherry quarterback Matt Heslin did his best Peyton Manning imitation by throwing five touchdowns in a 50-14 victory over California in a Class A Black Hills Conference game. Heslin found Alex Babirad for three of the touchdowns, 60, 8 and 54 yards. Rece Henneman not only threw a touchdown pass but also returned two interceptions for touchdowns in Jefferson-Morgan’s 54-0 victory over Bentworth. South Fayette’s Brett Brumbaugh threw thee TD passes in the Lions 53-0 shutout of Keystone Oaks, and quarterback Brandon Lawless accounted for four touchdowns in Carmichaels’ 30-22 win over Frazier.
Avella moved to 2-0 with a 36-0 victory over West Greene in a game where Zach Thompson caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt for a score. And Mike Cushma kicked a 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to give Chartiers-Houston a 9-6 victory over Bishop Canevin.
