On the same day Shai McKenzie had his torn ACL repaired, Washington High School’s football team defeated Yough, 35-13, in a Class AA Interstate Conference game. The Prexies relied on the passing arm of Jonathan Spina and used a rotation of running backs to try to replace McKenzie’s production. Nathan Swart caught three passes for 78 yards and Chase Caldwell threw a halfback-option pass for a score.

Meanwhile, Monessen ended the WPIAL’s longest current winning streak with a 42-24 victory over Clairton, snapping a 66-game run. Fort Cherry moved to 4-0 with a 35-14 victory over Brentwood as Koltan Kobrys had 136 yards on 26 carries. Chartiers-Houston found a game and a victory, 31-16 over Conemaugh Township. C-H lost a game when Imani folded its football program.

Avella remained undefeated when the Eagles stopped a two-point conversion run in overtime to seal a 27-26 victory. Marcus Ubinger ran for 112 yards in Peters Township’s 48-7 win over Shaler and McGuffey got its first win of the year in a 28-12 victory over Freedom.
