Softball: South Fayette deals Trinity first loss

Ashley Iagnemma scattered six hits and struck out seven as South Fayette handed Trinity its first loss of the season in a showdown between the top two teams in Section 2-AAA Saturday.

Sara Jubas tripled, and Courtney Blocher and Gwen Iagnemma both doubled for the Lions (5-1, 6-1), who took over first place in the section.

Delaney Elling doubled for Trinity (3-1, 7-1).

• Alexander Central of Taylorsville, N.C., hit three home runs to defeat Canon-McMillan, 9-3, in a non-section game in North Carolina.

Alexander Central, an eight-time state champion and a top-5 team in the country in most national polls, got home runs from winning pitcher Kiana Millsaps, Amanda Sports and Bailey Sherill. Vada Sherill had a double as Alexander Central moved to 19-0.

Olivia Lorusso had a double, hit a two-run home run and drove in three for the Big Macs (5-2).

• Avella evened its record in Section 1-A with an 11-5 win over North Catholic.

Kira Doaks and Jade Georgetti each had a double for the Eagles (2-2, 2-3). Tajoh White had a triple for North Catholic (2-4, 2-4).
