California University sophomore Jack Dennis tossed a no-hitter in in the opening game Wednesday afternoon as the Vulcans posted a doubleheader split against Pitt-Johnstown at Point Stadium. The Vulcans won 2-0 before losing the second game, 4-3 in extra innings.

Dennis (5-2) registered the second no-hitter in the league this spring and became the first Cal pitcher to accomplish the feat since former All-American Randy Sturgill against Wheeling Jesuit in 2008. Dennis faced just one batter over the minimum and tied his career high with six strikeouts. He retired 11 straight batters to start the game before a hit by pitch in the bottom of the fourth resulted in the only baserunner of the game for the Mountain Cats.

With the split, Cal is 9-11 in PSAC West Division play and 21-16 overall.

Derrick Zeroski singled home Mick Fennell, who had tripled, in the first inng for the only run Dennis would need.

UPJ won the second game with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.
