Charleroi moved into a tie for the Section 4-AA lead by dealing Steel Valley its first league loss, 9-7, on the Ironmen’s home field Wednesday.

Winning pitcher Jen Tilghman had a big game, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI. Adrianna Gottheld was 3-for-4, and Sydney Toth and Morgan Riley each went 3-for-5 for the Cougars (4-1, 6-2).

Chelsea Rohan had three hits, including a double, and Amanda Toth also doubled for Steel valley (4-1, 5-2).

Charleroi trailed 7-5 after five innings, but the Cougars scored four runs in the top of the sixth.

• Waynesburg used one huge inning to turn a one-run game into a three-inning run-rule victory.

The Raiders scored 14 runs in the bottom of the third inning to defeat visiting Chartiers-Houston 17-2 in a key Section 2-AA game.

Waynesburg led 3-2 after two innings, then collected nine of its 12 hits in the big inning. Tiffany Ross had a key two-run single in the third to get the Raiders’ offense going. She also had a double and finished with three RBI. Emily Luckey had a triple for the Raiders (5-1, 6-6), who are in second place in the section.

Christine Walsh smacked a double for C-H (4-3, 6-5).

• Marlie Mounts tripled and drove in five runs as McGuffey avenged an earlier loss to Beth-Center with a 19-0 victory in a five-inning Section 2-AA game.

Cassie Weiss fired a one-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Highlanders (6-1, 10-1), who lost 4-1 to Beth-Center (3-3, 3-5) last month.

Megan Schultz and C.C. Wagner added doubles for McGuffey.

• Bentworth had 13 hits, including doubles by Micaela Danley, Morgan Vickless and Jame Schrock to beat California, 15-2, in a five-inning non-section game.

Kacie Hite was the winning pitcher for the Bearcats (6-6).

California (0-8) had doubles from Rachel Wilkinson and Destiny Gudel.
