College baseball: W&J sweeps key PAC series from Thomas More

Nick Vento had three hits and drove in four runs as Washington & Jefferson defeated Thomas More, 11-5, Saturday to sweep a three-game Presidents’ Athletic Conference series at Ross Memorial Park.
W&J’s Josh Staniscia also had three hits, and Ronny Peirish opened the scoring for the Presidents (12-2, 17-11) with a solo home run. The Presidents, who are in first place in the PAC, put the game away with a five-run bottom of the seventh.
Jared Bird was the winning pitcher. Addison Brown was the losing pitcher for Thomas More (9-6, 15-13).
• Connor Furwa and Derrick Zavatsky combined to shut down Bethany in a 3-1 win as Waynesburg earned a PAC split with visiting Bethany after the Bison won the opening game of the doubleheader, 6-3.
Derek Miller scored three runs in the opener for the Bison (8-6, 13-11), and Dylan Wassel drove in a pair of runs.
Trinity graduate Neal Yakopin had two hits for the Yellow Jackets (9-6, 13-17).
California High School graduate Zac Edminston was the losing pitcher in the nightcap despite allowing only five hits.
