Chesterfield County’s improbable journey to the Pony League World Series continues.

The team from Virginia won four games in one day to win the East Zone and clinch a spot in Washington. They did so after losing their first game and the same is narrative is unfolding in the World Series.

Mexico is eliminated from the tournament, while Chesterfield County earned a rematch with Hilo, Hawaii, later Tuesday night. Hilo defeated Chesterfield, 4-1, in the first round.

Despite seizing momentum with an 8-3 lead after three innings, Los Mochis rallied in the fourth with a four-run inning to draw within one. Chesterfield walked five batters in the inning and surrendered a sacrifice fly to left fielder Juan Valdez. Jose Manzanarez added a two-run single. Chesterfield responded with one run in the fifth and sixth innings to stop the rally.

Jackson Horner hit a third inning three-run homer for Chesterfield and Patrick Routsis went two-for-four with a home run and two RBI. Pitcher Hunter Montgomery earned the win despite allowing seven earned runs. Chesterfield scored four runs in the first inning on four hits and four in the third on three hits.
