Osterman, Pride shut out Rebellion

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Natasha Whatley scored on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and Cat Osterman took a no-hitter into the seventh as the first-place USSSA Pride blanked the Rebellion 1-0 Thursday night in the opener of a season-ending four-game series.
The Pride (31-14) moved closer to clinching the National Pro Fastpitch regular-season championship. The Rebellion fell to 8-37.
Osterman had a no-hitter until Rebellion shortstop Bianca Mejia led off the seventh inning with a single to center field. Ashley Carter pinch-ran for Mejia but was thrown out trying to steal second base for the second out of the inning. Osterman then hit Andie Varsho with a pitch but got Taylor Edwards to pop out to end the game.
Osterman struck out 13 batters and issued three walks.
Rebellion pitchers Angel Bunner and Anna Miller combined on a three-hitter. Bunner, the starter, allowed two hits and one walk over four innings.
The Pride loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth on a single by Whatley, an error and Madison Shipman’s walk. Whatley scored the game’s only run on Andrea Duran’s sacrifice fly. The Rebellion got out of the jam with a double play but could not muster any offense against Osterman, who improved her record to 16-0. The two-time Olympian lowered her ERA to 0.57.
