Girls basketball roundup: J-M stay unbeaten; Trinity dealt first loss

Long-range shooting a huge second quarter carried undefeated Jefferson-Morgan to a 58-53 victory over visiting Beth-Center in a non-section game Tuesday night.

J-M (6-0) made seven three-point field goals and outscored Beth-Center 21-2 in the second quarter to turn a 15-13 deficit into a 34-17 lead at halftime.

Kayla Yorko led the Rockets with 15 points, including three three-pointers. Nicole Venick followed with 12 points.

Most of the scoring for Beth-Center (1-2) came from Kinlee Whited and Anna Bartman. Whited scored 20 points and made 10 of 13 at the free-throw line. Bartman tossed in 18 points.

Chartiers Valley 36, Trinity 32: Melissa Rickens scored 11 points and host Chartiers Valley had a huge advantage at the free-throw line as the Colts handed Trinity its first loss of the season, 36-32, in Section 5-AAA.

Chartiers Valley (2-0, 3-2) won despite making only nine field goals. The Colts made 17 of 21 free throws compared to Trinity’s 3-for-6.

Sierra Kotchman scored 13 points to pace Trinity (1-1, 4-1).

Canon-McMillan 70, Allderdice 35: Senior Danielle Parker continued her dominance with a 20-point performance as Canon-McMillan defeated Allderdice, 70-35, in a non-section game.

Parker, who averaged more than 20 points per game entering Tuesday, matched that mark. Rebecca Turney added 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Big Macs (2-0, 5-1). Kierra King also scored 12 points as Canon-McMillan led by 17 at halftime.
