W&J’s Orstein to join Jewish Sports Hall of Fame

Washington & Jefferson College men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach Mike Orsteinj will be inducted into the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in May.
The banquet will be held at the Beth Shalom Synagogue in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh May 17.
Orstein is the winningest coach in W&J swimming history, having recently earned his 500th career dual meet victory when the Presidents swept Pitt-Bradford. At W&J, Orstein has a 441-182-2 in 26 years at the helm. He has been named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Coach of the Year 15 times and his teams have won nine PAC titles.
Orstein has coached eight national champions, 17 All-Americans, 33 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships qualifiers and 243 PAC champions. His swimmers have broken 203 school records and 59 conference marks.
From 2004-2008, Orstein coached his daughter, Kaitlyn, to eight national championships and earned 14 All-America citations. She won 25 conference championships and was a four-time PAC Swimmer of the Year.
