HARRISBURG – Days removed from leading South Fayette to its second Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association title in as many seasons, senior quarterback Brett Brumbaugh picked up Class AA Player of the Year honors Tuesday.

Brumbaugh, who guided the Lions over challenger Dunmore 28-16 Dec. 13 at Hersheypark Stadium, finished his career with a PIAA record 11,104 passing yards, 3,728 coming this season with 42 touchdown passes as undefeated South Fayette extended its winning streak to 32 games.

The Duquesne recruit is joined by teammates Hunter Hayes and Logan Sharp on the PA Football Writers’ Class AA All-State team.

Hayes, a junior running back, ran for 263 yards and two touchdowns in Hershey, setting a PIAA championship record with a 95-yard scoring scamper in the second half. Sharp, a University of Pennsylvania commit, hauled in 13 touchdown receptions for the year.

For the fifth year, the all-state process has been overseen by the sports writers who cover high school football around the Commonwealth. Players are nominated in all four classifications, then a statewide ballot is issued to afford all writers the opportunity to cast their votes.

District 2 champion Dunmore also is well-represented on the 38-man roster with writers tagging sophomore running back Colin Holmes and twin brothers Dan and Tim Drewes, both senior linemen.

Longtime skipper Jack Henzes earned Coach of the Year honors for guiding the Bucks to their second championship round in three years.

Joining Brumbaugh as repeat selections are Loyalsock Twp. senior quarterback Kyle Datres, Apollo-Ridge athlete Tre Tipton, Lewisburg senior defensive back Drew Newcomb and senior defensive back Noah Osman of Chestnut Ridge.

Northwestern Lehigh senior wide receiver Cam Richardson was selected as a defensive athlete in 2013.
