Boys basketball roundup: Duo leads Bulldogs to King Coal title game

Bradey McDonnell and Ryan Beyer combined for 30 points as Beth-Center defeated Jefferson-Morgan, 54-44, at the King Coal Lions Tournament Friday night.

The Bulldogs (4-5) advance to the title game tonight where they will face Carmichaels at 7:30 p.m., and the Rockets will face Mapletown at 6 p.m.

McDonnell led Beth-Center with 17 points and Beyer chipped in 13. The Bulldogs led 31-23 at halftime and pulled away with strong free throw shooting in the second half.

Rece Henneman led Jefferson-Morgan (5-3) with 19 points.

Carmichaels 49, Mapletown 34: It took three weeks, but Carmichaels got its first victory of the 2014 season with a 49-34 win over Mapletown Friday night at the King Coal Lions Tournament.

The Mikes (1-6) advance to the title game where they will face Beth-Center at 7:30 p.m., while the Maples (0-8) will face Jefferson-Morgan in the consolation game at 6 p.m.

Liam Shea led Carmichaels with 18 points and Jacob Kinsell added 14. Jake Lawson had 17 points and Ben Boone had 10 for Mapletown.

Southmoreland 55, California 46: Tom Pisula scored 25 points and Soutmoreland rallied to a 55-46 win over California at the Charleroi Federal Savings Tournament.

The Scotties (9-0) will face the winner of Elizabeth Forward Monday at 9 p.m. The Trojans (7-2) will face the Charleroi Monday at 6 p.m.

The Trojans were led by Kass Taylor, who scored 28 points, and Tray Matthews chipped in 15.

Yough 53, Ringgold 32: Blake Kosor scored a game-high 15 points and Yough shut down Ringgold defensively as the Cougars defeated the Rams, 53-32, at the Charleroi Federal Savings Tournament.

Yough (4-4) will face Belle Vernon Monday at 7:30 p.m., while the Rams (3-4), who have lost three consecutive games, do not play until Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.

The Cougars led by five poitns at halftime before outscoring Ringgold, 21-1, in the third quarter.

Elizabeth Forward 67, Charleroi 56:

George Prota and Connor Paoletti combined for 46 points as Elizabeth Forward defeated Charleroi, 67-56, at the Charleroi Federal Savings Tournament.

The Warriors (4-6) will face Southmoreland Monday at 9 p.m., while the Cougars (4-4) square off against California at 6 p.m.

Prota scored a game-high 26 points and Paoletti added 20 for Elizabeth Forward, which outscored Charleroi, 18-5, in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. John Arnold scored 16 points for Charleroi, while Matt Carr and Sam Miceli both scored 14.
