Monessen heads to WPIAL semis

BALDWIN – Clintell Gillaspie scored 21 points as Monessen advanced to the WPIAL Class A semifinals with a 63-49 victory over Wilkinsburg in a high school boys basketball playoff game Friday night.

Javon Brown added 18 points, while Justice Rawlins added 10, for the Greyhounds (19-5), who will face Vincentian Academy, an 88-51 winner over Clairton Friday, in the semifinals on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

The victory also qualifies Monessen for the PIAA playoffs. The top four teams in the WPIAL advance.

Wilkinsburg (13-9), which was led by DeShawn Adaire’s 22 points, led 26-23 at the half. But the Greyhounds went on a 23-12 run in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Isaiah Pete added 11 points for Clairton.
