High school wrestling: West Greene edges Wash High; South Fayette debuts with win

West Greene won three out of four matches in the heavier weights to hold off visiting Washington, 33-30, in a Section 2-A match in Class AA.

Colton Hamilton’s pin at 138 sewed up the match for West Greene and Dalton Wildman (182), Jeff Isiminger (195) and Will VanNorman (220) each had a pin in the upper weights. Shelkdon Phillips got one at 120.

George Rogers returned from a suspension for disciplinary reasons to record a pin at 145 for the Prexies (0-3, 0-5). Zhiere Patmon (132), Keirs Gloady (Hvy) also had pins.

• Avella dominated the heavier weights and it proved to be the difference as the Eagles defeated visiting Chartiers-Houston 39-24 in Class AA Section 1-A.

Avella won each of the five bouts from 170 pounds through heavyweight, including two by fall and two by forfeit.

Derek Allen (220) and Jake Temple (Hvy) won by fall for Avella, as did Shawn Meredith (132) and Dakota Umphrey (152).

Josh Kuslock (120) and Pete Provenzano won by fall for Chartiers-Houston.

• South Fayette opened the wrestling schedule with a 58-21 victory over South Park in a Section 1-A match in Class AA.

The Lions got eight forfeits and a pin from Bryce Christoff (220). Dallas Bulsak (113) and Jake Wentzel (152) had pins for the Eagles.
