Brandon Lawless and Ty Cole combined for 25 of Carmichaels’ 27 points in the second quarter as the Mikes defeated Avella, 74-55, in the Section 3-A opener for both teams.

Lawless finished with 31 points, while Cole had 21 for the unbeaten Mikes (8-0), who also got 10 points from Cory Fuller.

Brandon Newman had 27 points, while Cody Dobbin had 10, for Avella (2-8), which led 12-11 after one quarter before the Mikes’ outburst.

South Park 51, McGuffey 42: South Park jumped out to a 27-5 halftime lead en route to a 51-42 Section 5-AAA win over McGuffey.

Dan Wanker and Sean Colligan had 13 points each for South Park (3-0, 4-7).

Sean Sanders had 13 points to lead McGuffey (0-3, 2-7).

South Fayette 63, Waynesburg 24: Jack Relihan had 19 points as South Fayette overwhelmed Waynesburg, 63-24, in a Section 5-AAA game.

Justin Watson added 13 points for the Lions (2-0, 5-1), who were just 11 of 27 from the foul line.

Eric Coldren had 16 of the 24 points for Waynesburg (0-3, 3-7).

Beth-Center 49, West Greene 30: Steve Beyer had 10 points as Beth-Center used a balanced scoring attack to beat West Greene, 49-30, in a Section 5-AA game.

The Bulldogs (2-2, 3-6) led 33-19 entering the fourth quarter.

Craig Weaver led West Greene (0-4, 3-6) with 15 points.

Frazier 67, Jefferson-Morgan 63: Roger Cline scored a game-high 24 points to send Frazier to a 67-63 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in a Section 5-AA game.

Charles Manack and Caleb Cox each scored 17 points for the Commodores (3-1, 5-4).

Four players reached double figures for J-M (4-7, 1-3). Rece Henneman led the way with 22 points, Austin Clark added 14 and Chas Mattish and Christian Randolph each tossed in 11.

California 62, Bentworth 52: California jumped to a 15-2 edge in the first quarter on the way to a 62-52 victory over Bentworth in a Section 5-AA game.

Dmitri Clements led the way with 13 points for Cal (2-2, 4-5), Troy Matthews chipped in with 12 points.

Bentworth (1-3, 1-8) was led by Angelo Rios-Lopez’ 19 points. Jake Crockett had 12 points and Petrola Damon-Bakos contributed 10 points.

Monessen 83, Geibel 40: Justice Rawlins had a triple-double the hard way to help Monessen to an 83-40 victory over Geibel in the Section 3-A opener for both teams.

Rawlins had 10 rebounds, 13 assists and 10 steals to go along with five points for the Greyhounds (5-4). Clintell Gillaspie scored a game-high 26 points and Javon Brown chipped in with 16. Tyler Yuille and Lavell Rush each added 10 points.

Kyle Toth scored 12 points for Geibel (1-7).

Bethel Park 54, Peters Township 51: Peters Township’s 17-point fourth quarter was not enough to catch Bethel Park in a 54-51 loss in Section 4-AAAA.

Bethel Park (3-1, 8-2) led by nine-points in the third quarter, but Peters Township mounted a comeback to draw within three. The Blackhawks, led by Joe Mascaro’s 21 points, made a late defensive stand to hang on. Jake Murphy added 10 points for Bethel Park.

The Indians, who trailed 28-22 at halftime, were led by Connor Freely’s 17 points. But Peters Township (2-2, 5-5) could not overcome Bethel Park’s early offensive surge. J.C. Brush added 15 points for the Indians, who dropped their second-straight game.

Chartiers-Houston 60, Bishop Canevin 44: Kodie Hanley scored 20 points to power Chartiers-Houston to a 60-44 win over Bishop Canevin in a Section 4-AA game.

Miles Williamson added 12 points for the Bucs (2-2, 7-3). Alec Ferrari had 10 assists and Ben Shade 11 rebounds. Brennan Cahill had 10 points for Biship Canevin (3-6).

Charleroi 53, Frazier 19: Mia Woytovich had a double-double to lead Charleroi past Frazier 53-19 in a non-section game.

Woytovich tossed in 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Cougars (9-3).

Lynsey Wright added 15 points and Angie Tilghman had six assists.

Frazier fell to 6-3.
