MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Markel Brown hit a 3-pointer with 12 seconds to lift No. 11 Oklahoma State to a 73-72 win over West Virginia Saturday.

The Cowboys (14-2, 2-1 Big 12) trailed for most of the game, but got solid efforts from their top two scorers in the final minutes.

Marcus Smart had 22 points and 13 rebounds. Le’Bryan Nash added 18 points and Brown finished with 12.

Terry Henderson scored a season-high 21 points for West Virginia (10-6, 2-1), which saw its three-game winning streak snapped. Juwan Staten added 20 points and Devin Williams had 12 points and 13 rebounds.

West Virginia’s Eron Harris, Smart, Brown and Staten represented four of the top six scorers in the conference. Harris finished with 11 points, more than seven below his average.

Henderson’s 3-pointer put the Mountaineers ahead 72-70 with 1:14 remaining.

Freshman Nathan Adrian, who’s been mired in a shooting slump, sent the home crowd into a frenzy with a block of Nash’s shot attempt with 1:04 to go and West Virginia got the ball back on the tie-up.

But Staten missed a layup with 27 seconds left and Smart sent a pass to Brown, who made the go-ahead shot from the top left side of the circle. Staten missed another layup in traffic in the closing seconds.

Indiana 79, Penn State 76: Noah Vonleh scored a career-high 19 points, Yogi Ferrell added 15 and Indiana held off Penn State, 79-76.

The Hoosiers (11-5, 1-2 Big Ten) trailed by as many as 15 early before rallying by the reeling Nittany Lions (9-8, 0-4) in the second half. Indiana took the lead for good on a 3-pointer from the corner by Austin Etherington with 1:22 left and made six straight free throws to avoid its first worst start in conference play in three years.

DJ Newbill tied a career-high with 24 points for Penn State, but his 3-point heave with 3 seconds left hit the back of the rim as the Nittany Lions lost their sixth straight conference game.

Ross Travis chipped in 13 points but leading scorer Tim Frazier was limited to 10 points and fouled out as Penn State’s beleaguered basketball program couldn’t provide another emotional boost on the same day the football program lured James Franklin away from Vanderbilt to succeed Bill O’Brien. In front of a crowd well short of capacity, there was no sign or mention during the game of Franklin,.

Robert Morris 71, Bryant 67: Karvel Anderson scored 32 points, including his team’s final nine, as Robert Morris defeated Bryant, 71-67.

Anderson made a floater for a 69-67 lead with 38 seconds left after Bryant’s Dyami Starks had tied the game with a 3-pointer. Starks missed his next 3-point attempt with 3 seconds left and Anderson closed the scoring with two free throws.

The Bulldogs (9-8, 1-1 Northeast Conference) led 64-62 at 3:43 when Anderson put RMU ahead with a 3-pointer and added another basket at 2:03.

Anderson made 12 of 23 field-goal attempts, including 6 of 13 3-pointers. Jeremiah Worthem added 10 points and Lucky Jones nine points and 11 rebounds.

Alex Francis scored 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting for Bryant with Starks adding 13 and Joe O’Shea 11.

RMU (7-10, 2-0) had a 43-33 rebounding edge including 20 on the offensive boards that led to 25 second-chance points.
