Pitt’s Johnson out for season

PITTSBURGH – Pitt sophomore forward Durand Johnson will miss the rest of the season after tearing the ACL and meniscus in his right knee in Saturday’s win over Wake Forest.
The 6-6 Johnson was injured while driving to the basket with 5:30 remaining in Pittsburgh’s 80-65 victory. He was fouled on the play and made two free throws before leaving.
He is expected to undergo surgery at UPMC South Side within the next week. His rehabilitation process is expected to last 9 to 12 months.
“We are thoroughly heartbroken for Durand,” Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon said. “With his passion for the game and outstanding work ethic, Durand has contributed significantly to our success. He has made so much improvement in all facets of his game this year.”
Dixon added he expects Johnson to be “100 percent” for the 2014-15 season.
Johnson was blossoming as Pitt’s sixth man, averaging 8.8 points and 3.0 rebounds. He is second on the Panthers (15-1, 3-0 ACC) with 22 three-pointers. Johnson reached double-figure scoring in eight games, including 11 against Wake Forest and 17 versus Maryland.
The Panthers play at Georgia Tech Tuesday.
