Lauren Crites scored eight of her game-high 18 points in the pivotal fourth quarter Monday night as South Fayette pulled away for a 64-55 victory over visiting Trinity in Section 5-AAA.

The win moves South Fayette (4-1, 6-6) into second place in the section. Trinity (3-2, 8-4), which opened the season with eight consecutive wins, has lost four in a row.

The game was close throughout and tied at halftime, 30-30. The Hillers held a 44-42 lead after three quarters, but South Fayette gained the lead early in the fourth quarter and protected the advantage at the free-throw line. The Lions made 20 of 30 free throws, and Crites was 8-for-10 at the line.

Sophomore Autumn Mozick and freshman Carly Kilgus each scored 15 points for South Fayette, and sophomore Mikayla Fetchet had 12.

Rachel Phillis led three Trinity in double figures with 14, sophomore Mary Dunn followed with 12 and freshman Sierra Kotchman contributed 11. The Hillers were only 12 of 24 at the free-throw line.

Canon-McMillan 38, Peters Township 29: Danielle Parker had five of her 16 points in an 11-0 third quarter run for Canon-McMillan as the Big Macs rallied in the second half to beat Peters Township, 38-29, in a Section 4-AAA game.

Trailing 15-9 after one quarter and 19-18 at the half, the Big Macs (3-3, 7-8) outscored Peters Township (1-6, 5-10) 11-0 in the third quarter.

Madison Kerr led the Indians with 11 points.

Jefferson-Morgan 42, Carmichaels 38: Jefferson-Morgan took the lead for good early in the fourth quarter and went on to defeat visiting Carmichaels 42-38 in Section 3-A.

Sophomore Ally Bogden led a balanced offense for J-M (2-2, 7-4) with 11 points. Erin Confortini followed with 10.

Carmichaels (0-2, 2-10) trailed 26-19 at halftime but pulled even at 30-30 after three quarters before J-M won the game with a final surge. Amanda Brown led the Mikes with a game-high 12 points and Caroline Cree contributed 10.

California 60, Mapletown 17: Kylie Huffman had 20 points as California topped Mapletown, 60-17, in a Section 4-A game.

Jenna Miller added 10 points for California (3-0, 9-3).

Brook Duranko led Mapletown (0-3, 1-10) with six points.

Washington 35, Burgettstown 21: Mikayla Maltoney had 11 points to lead Washington to a 35-21 Section 5-AA win over Burgettstown.

The Prexies (5-1, 8-4) held the Blue Devils (2-3, 3-8) to just seven points combined in the second and third quarters.

Mikayla Bertovich and Katie Tarr had seven points each for Burgettstown.

McGuffey 79, South Side Beaver 41: Sammie Weiss had 25 points as McGuffey defeated South Side Beaver, 79-41, in a Section 5-AA game.

Rachel Czulewicz added 14 points and Katie Demi chipped in 11 for the Highlanders (5-0, 10-3).

Cheyanne Seich had 14 points to lead South Side Beaver (2-3, 4-9).

Beth-Center 51, Bentworth 46: Anna Bartman scored 23 points and helped Beth-Center to a 51-46 overtime Section 6-AA win over Bentworth.

Ally Trippy, who, along with Madison Darney, had 12 points, hit a three-pointer and Bartman scored on a layup in the last 24 seconds to help the Buldogs (1-4, 3-7) send the game into overtime. Bartman then had five points in the extra period.

Heather Chester and Grace Marchezak had 14 and 11 points, respectively, for Bentworth (0-5, 2-9).

Brownsville 54, Waynesburg 30: Whitney Ptak scored 13 points and Maris Seto had 11 as Brownsville defeated Waynesburg, 54-40, in a Section 4-AAA game.

Brownsville (1-3, 6-4) limited the Raiders (0-5, 2-9) to 11 second half points.

Lindsey Huhn had eight points to lead Waynesburg.

Avella 42, West Greene 27: Mackenna Drazich had 15 points to lead Section 3-A leader Avella to a 42-27 win over visiting West Greene.

The Eagles (3-0, 8-4) led 31-14 after three quarters.

Madison Raber led West Greene (1-2, 6-4) with 10 points.

Charleroi 71, Yough 30: Mia Woytovich led three Charleroi players in double figures with 21 points and the Cougars cruised to a 71-30 victory over visiting Yough in a non-section game.

The Cougars (12-3) were never threatened en route to building a 32-13 halftime lead and then outscoring the Yough (2-12) 22-9 in the third quarter.

Lynsey Wright had a big game for Charleroi with 19 points, and Jennifer Tilghman had 14.

Joraden Sterner led Yough with 12 points.

Brownsville 59, Beth-Center 51: Section 5-AA leader Brownsville used a big third-quarter to survive on the road and defeat upset-minded Beth-Center, 59-51.

Beth-Center (2-4, 3-8) led 24-22 at halftime, but Brownsville (6-0) outscorede the Bulldogs 17-7 in the third quarter. The Flacons put four players in double figures and made seven three-pointers.

Nick Despot paced the Falcons with 17 points, DeShawtae Bell followed with 13 points, and Cole and Ryan Novotney each had 10.

Adam Walter was Beth-Center’s leading scorer with 11 points. Dean Holt also hit double figures with 10 points.

Brentwood 49, Burgettstown 44: Troy Elphinstone scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half as Brentwood held on to beat Burgettstown, 49-44, in a Section 4-AA game.

Brentwood (2-4, 6-6) led 37-22 in the third quarter before Burgettstown (1-5, 2-11) went on a 14-0 run to trim the lead to 37-36 early in the fourth quarter.

Cole LaRocka led the Blue Devils with 14 points.
