Chartiers Valley holds off South Fayette

Matt McConell scored a game-high 20 points Tuesday night and Chartiers Valley remained unbeaten in Section 5-AAA with a 52-43 victory over host South Fayette.
South Fayette (4-2, 7-3) couldn’t overcome a poor first quarter when it fell behind 19-9. The Lions cut CV’s lead to 27-20 at halftime and 39-37 after three quarters, but the Colts won the fourth quarter, 13-6.
Chartiers Valley (6-0, 11-1) had one fewer field goal than South Fayette but made 15 of 19 free throws compared to the Lions’ 4-for-9. Jarrad Tuite scored 17 points for the Colts.
Justin Watson was South Fayette’s leading scorer with 12 points. Pat Brady followed with 11.
Washington 69, Burgettstown 43: DeQuay Isbell scored 12 of his team-high 17 points in Washington’s huge first quarter as the Little Prexies rolled to a 69-43 victory over visiting Burgettstown in Section 4-AA.
Washington (5-1, 11-3) raced to a commanding 31-8 lead in the game’s first eight minutes.
Isbell and Nate Swart each had a double-double for Wash High. Swart scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Isbell also went to the boards for 10 rebounds. Tauren Wozniak chipped in with 10 points.
Dylan Dhans matched Isbell to share game scoring honors with 17 points for Burgettstown (1-5, 2-12).
Avella 69, Mapletown 59: Bill McKee had 21 points to lead Avella to a 69-59 Section 3-A win over Mapletown.
Brandon Miller added 18 points and Walt Kopko 14 for the Eagles (1-2, 3-9), who made 19 of 27 free throws.
Derrick Riggleman had 26 points, while Eric Atwood added 22 for Mapletown (1-2, 4-7).
Chartiers-Houston 78, Fort Cherry 50: Alec Ferrari had 15 points and a school-record 15 assists as Chartiers-Houston won a crucial Section 4-AA game against Fort Cherry.
Kodie Hanley and Miles Williamson added 20 points each, while A.J. Meyers had 16 points for the Bucs (4-2. 10-3), who moved a game ahead of Fot Cherry (3-3, 5-6) for third place in the section.
Phil Baker and Nick Zando had 14 and 13 points, respectively, to lead Fort Cherry.
Beth-Center 63, Bentworth 25: Dean Holt’s 14 points led Beth-Center to a 63-25 Section 5-AA win over Bentworth.
Ryan Byer added 12 points, while Adam Walters chipped in 10, for Beth-Center (3-4, 4-8).
Zach Rosker led Bentworth (1-6, 1-11) with eight points.
Moon 58, Trinity 53: Robert Norman had 16 points to lead Moon past Trinity, 58-53, in a Section 4-AAA game.
Tyler Crenshaw and Colton Hower added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Tigers (3-4, 5-8).
Avery King had 27 points to lead Trinity (0-7, 2-11), which also got 10 points out of Saul Wells.
Charleroi 44, California 38: Dakota Moorer’s 13 points led Charleroi to a 44-38 Section 5-AA win over California.
Brandon Bowman added 12 points for the Cougars (5-1, 7-4).
Sean Sanders had 10 points to lead California (3-3, 5-7).
Waynesburg 40, McGuffey 33: Dom Sarra had 15 points as Waynesburg won its first Section 5-AAA game, a 40-33 victory over McGuffey.
Cory Dispenza added nine points for the Raiders (1-5, 4-9).
Sean Sanders led McGuffey (0-6, 2-12) with 10 points.
Jefferson-Morgan 76, West Greene 60: Rece Henneman scored 32 points and had 11 rebounds to lead Jefferson-Morgan to a 76-60 Section 5-AA win over West Greene.
Christian Randolph and Austin Clark added 11 points each for the Rockets (3-4, 6-8).
Ben Carlisle scored 20 points to lead West Greene (0-6, 3-9), which also got 14 points from Kolten Rush.
South Park 57, Ringgold 46: Dan Wanker scored 15 of his 17 points over the final three quarters and South Park won at Ringgold, 57-46.
Dakota Browning scored a team-high 15 points for Ringgold and Dayshore Majors followed with 14.
McGuffey 79, Bentworth 33: Sammie Weiss led five McGuffey players in double figures and the Section 5-AA-leading Highlanders cruised to a 79-33 victory over host Bentworth.
Cassie Weiss followed her sister in scoring with 16 points, and Rachel Czulewicz, Kati Demi and C.C. Wagner each contributed 10 points for McGuffey (6-0, 11-3), which led 29-2 after one quarter.
Riley Skertbetz was the leading scorer for Bentworth (0-6, 2-10) with 13 points.
Fort Cherry 65, Steel Valley 20: Fort Cherry won its second game in less than 24 hours when it pounded visiting Steel Valley 65-20 in Section 4-AA Tuesday afternoon.
Jenna Lucas outscored the entire Steel Valley team as she tossed in 22 points for Fort Cherry (3-3, 6-4). The Rangers, who scored 26 third-quarter points, also received 23 points from Rachel Bellhy. Tina Bellhy gave the Rangers three players in double figures as she scored 12 points.
Steel Valley is 1-5 in section and 1-11 overall.
California 42, Carmichaels 26: Jenna Miller and Tristen Conaway led a second-half comeback by California as the Trojans rallied to beat Carmichaels 42-26.
Carmichaels led 16-13 at halftime, but Cal outscored the Mikes 17-8 in the third quarter and then held the visitors to only two points over the final eight minutes.
Miller and Conaway shared game-scoring honors with 14 points each. Caroline Cree paced Carmichaels with 13.
Avella 55, Mapletown 29: Lauren Craig scored 19 points to lead Avella to a 55-29 win over Mapletown in a Section 3-A game.
Aleesha Thomas added 15 points for the Eagles (4-0, 9-4).
Hannah Dingle led Mapletown (0-4, 1-11) with nine points.
Trinity 54, Ringgold 52: Senior Kelly Korpus had a career-high 17 points to lead Trinity to a 54-52 overtime win over Ringgold in a non-section game.
Rachel Phillis added 14 points, while Sierra Kotchman added 10, for the Hillers (9-4).
Marlena Schmidt had 19 points and Kara Foster 10 for Ringgold (6-7).
