The Washington Wild Things have signed former University of Louisville second baseman Nick Ratajczak.
In his final season at Louisville last spring, the left-handed hitting was named All-Big East after batting .283 with two home runs, 34 RBI, and 52 runs. He batted in the No. 2 spot in the lineup for the Cardinals, who were 51-14 including 20-4 in conference play.
Before playing at Louisville, Ratajczak played two seasons at Gulf Coast Community College. In his first season at Louisville, Ratajczak batted .343 with a team-leading 64 runs, 25 RBI and 11 doubles while starting all 63 games.
“We are excited to have Nick join the Wild Things organization. He comes highly recommended by Dan McDonnell, the coach of Louisville, and several scouts in the area,” Washington manager Bart Zeller said. “Nick adds quick hands at second base and will be given every opportunity to win the position in spring training.”
Ratajczak is a former 3A Player of the Year in Illinois and led Joliet to the state championship in 2009.
Washington also placed left-handed pitcher Ryan Zamorsky on the retired list. Zamorsky had a 5-7 record and 4.30 ERA for Evansville last year and was acquired by the Wild Things in an offseason trade.
