AVON, Ohio – Matt Dickson’s go-ahead two-run single in the sixth inning and flawless pitching from Lake Erie’s bullpen lifted the Crushers past the Wild Things, 2-1, Thursday night in a Frontier League game.

Washington led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth when Lake Erie’s Andrew Davis drew a lead-off walk before back-to-back singles by Vincent Mejia and Emmanuel Quilos loaded the bases with no outs.

Scott Dunn (2-3) induced a groundout and struck a batter out, but Dickson hit the third pitch he saw for a two-run single to give Lake Erie a one-run lead. Reliever Brandon Smith pitched flawless seventh and eighth innings before Trevor Longfellow sat Washington down in order to earn his second save of the season.

Zac Treese (2-1) earned the win for the Crushers and his only run allowed was unearned. The Wild Things loaded the bases in the top of the third inning after a single, walk and an error by Treese. C.J. Beatty hit a sacrifice fly to left field to give Washington the early lead.

The game wrapped up a three-game series between the two teams after the Wild Things lost 3-2 in 10 innings Wednesday night. Anderson Hildalgo’s two-out double sent Lake Erie to the victory.

Thursday’s game was the 15th one-run game played by Washington in their last 19 games.

The Wild Things (19-11) still hold a one-game lead over Evansville for first place in the East Division.
