Softball: C-H opens with split in South Carolina

Chartiers-Houston split a doubleheader Friday against two schools from New Jersey at the Cal Ripken Experience at Myrtle Beach.

In the first game against Goucester Catholic (N.J.), the Bucs allowed 10 runs on 11 hits, including a home run by Angela Antonini as the Bucs lost 10-3. Chartiers-Houston drew to within one run after a three-run fifth inning, but the Bucs allowed three runs in the bottom half to drop the season opener.

In the second game, against Lodi , winning pitcher Kassie Kesneck struck out nine and Sabrina Stankus hit a home run to lead the Bucs to a 5-0 victory. Chartiers-Houston scored four runs in the first and only allowed one hit in seven innings.

• West Greene made 11 errors, including seven in an 11-run fourth inning for Christian Academy (Tenn.), in a 12-0 five inning game in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Auburn recruit Hannah DeVault had a double and a triple for Christian Academy. Winning pitcher Allison Zimmerman struck out 10.

Losing pitcher Bailey Bennington had two doubles for West Greene (0-1).

• Carmichaels allowed two runs in the first inning against Pascack Hills (N.J.), but scored seven unanswered runs to win its season opener at Myrtle Beach.

Winning pitcher Erica Burns struck out seven and did not allow a walk. Emma Lowry hit a triple for the Mikes (1-0). Carmichaels had 10 hits.
