Starter Tyler Morris and reliever Aaron Hill combined on a one-hit shutout as Waynesburg won its season opener, 7-0, over visiting Beth-Center Thursday afternoon.

Morris struck out five over 4 1/3 hitless innings, and Hill pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, striking out five.

Hill went 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the sixth inning. Hunter Robinson also doubled for Waynesburg.

The only hit for Beth-Center (1-2) was a solid single up the middle by Seth Hvizda to lead off the top of the seventh inning.

• Dominic Castello threw a complete game one-hitter and Brady Gulakowski’s double in the first inning led to the winning run as Chartiers Valley defeated Canon-McMillan, 2-0, in a non-section game.

Castello struck out six batters and was helped by Gulakowski, who scored after hitting a double in the first inning, and an error helped score another Mustang in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Chartiers Valley (1-1) finished with six hits. Matt Mish was the losing pitcher for the Big Macs (3-1).

• Ryan Novotney struck out six batters and Shane Roebuck added two singles for Brownsville as the Falcons defeated Jefferson-Morgan, 6-1, in a non-section game.

Roebuck had two singles, two runs scored and two stolen bases for Brownsville (1-2). Losing pitcher Austin Clark struck out six for J-M (0-2). He entered the game with two outs in the second inning when starting pitcher Logan Bowman, who hit a solo home run in the first inning, took a line drive off his pitching hand.

West Greene scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and defeated Hundred, W.Va., 12-0, in a non-section game.

Tyler Baker hit a two-run homer during the big inning. West Greene (1-0) was led by Tanner Wildman’s pitching, which included nine strikeouts in five innings.

• Alec Ferrari pitched four scoreless innings and Tyler Day hit a solo home run as Chartiers-Houston defeated McGuffey, 7-1, in Section 2-AA.

The Bucs (1-0, 1-0) took an early 1-0 lead on Day’s home run and Chartiers-Houston added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull away from the Highlanders (0-1, 0-2). Kaleb Susko added a double for the Bucs, who finished with eight hits.

• Belle Vernon opened its season with a dominating performance from senior pitcher Dylan Pietrantoni and blanked visiting Greensburg Salem 10-0.

Pietrantoni threw a two-hit complete game, striking out 10. Belle Vernon had a three-run fourth inning and stole eight bases. All 11 of the Leopards’ hits were singles. Jimmy Amoroso had a two-run single.

• Mapletown opened the season with a 13-1, five-inning victory over Geibel in a non-section game.

Winning pitcher Patrick Clites doubled and scored twice for the Maples (1-0). Jon Dotts, Keith Popernack and Garett Kiger each scored twice. Geibel is 0-1.

• Cory Fuller’s two-run homer propelled Carmichaels to an 8-5 victory over Albert Gallatin in a non-section game.

Tyler Aeschbacher went 3-for-4 with a double for the Mikes (2-0) and Ty Cole added a double. Jacob Wamsley went 3-for-4.

Robbie Shea hit a grand slam for the Colonials (0-1) in the bottom of the seventh. Caleb Dempsey added a double.

• Jack McElroy tossed a five-hit shutout as St. Viator of Chicago downed Peters Township, 5-0 at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Matt Prazuch had a two-run single for St. Viator (2-0).

Ryan Black struck out four for PT (0-2).

• Ty Mitchell went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs to help Bentworth stop Frazier, 6-3, in a non-section game.

Taylor Bunner had two RBI for the Bearcats (1-0). Kirk Stechly and Zach Atkinson each had a double. Jake Rothka threw three no-hit innings and picked up the win.

Frazier is 1-2.
