FLORENCE, Ky. – Sam Eberle hit a three-run homer in the first inning and the Florence Freedom went on to defeat the Wild Things, 6-2, Friday night at UC Health Stadium.

Florence forged a 5-0 lead after two innings against Washington starter Chris Phelan (0-1). Freedom pitcher Dave Middendorf (1-0) threw four-hit ball over seven innings and won for the fourth time in as many career starts against Washington.

The Wild Things pulled to within 5-2 in the fourth, when C.J. Beatty scored on a double by Stewart Ijames and Carter Bell followed with a run-scoring single.

Eberle, who was 2-for-4, made it 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI-double.

Washington’s bullpen allowed only one run over the final seven innings, but the offense generated only five baserunners against three Florence pitchers.
