BALDWIN – The WPIAL Individual Track & Field Championships at Baldwin High School concluded its running events Saturday, after heavy rain cut the event short Thursday, and Washington High School senior Quorteze Levy found himself standing atop the awards podium for the second time.

Levy took first place in the Class AA 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.63, less than two-tenths of a second off the meet record of 38.50, which is held by former Prexie and current Pitt hurdler Dustin Fuller.

Levy won the WPIAL title that eluded him last season, when he finished in second place behind Tyler Murphy of Riverview, who beat Levy by .21 seconds. The gold medal will give Levy a favorable seeding at next weekend’s PIAA Individual Track & Field Championships in Shippensburg, where he took third place a year ago.

Levy left Baldwin with three medals after taking first place Thursday as a member of Wash High’s 3,200-meter relay team and second place Saturday with the Prexies’ 1,600 relay team in 3:28.61.

Other local athletes who qualified Saturday for the state meet are Fort Cherry’s Erin Allison and Koryn Jozwiakowski, and Waynesburg’s Sean Hilverding. Allison took fifth in the girls Class AA 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.86 and Jozwiakowski finished second in the girls Class AA triple jump with a leap of 34-11½.

Fort Cherry, which does not have a track at its school, has five athletes heading to the state meet. Allison and Jozwiakowski will be joined by Jenna Lucas, Zak Dysert and Rachel Bellhy.

Hilverding placed fourth in the boys Class AA 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:41.58.

Washington’s D’Heaven Kelley narrowly missed a spot in Shippensburg when he placed sixth in the boys Class AA 800-meter run in 2:01.36. Burgettstown’s Ryan Christy placed eighth in the boys Class AA 200 with a time of 23.96. The Canon-McMillan boys 3,200 relay team also placed eighth in Class AAA.
