Evan McDaniel and Blake Rohrbacher both doubled as Washington topped Mt. Lebanon, 10-4, in a Tri-State Supercolt League game Sunday.
Rohrbacher and Nick Herrnberger both had two hits, while Tyler Denman picked up the victory for Washington (1-0).
Steve Halliga had two hits for Mt. Lebanon (0-1).
• Connor Bedillion struck out 12 as Washington edged McGuffey, 4-3, in a West Penn Colt game.
Connor Anderson and Isaiah Perry doubled for Washington (1-0), with Anderson driving in three runs.
Austin McVey took the loss for McGuffey (0-1).
Trinity High School graduate Shaina Sumney set a personal best in the 1,500 meter race with a time of 4:23.39 at the Wolfpack Last Chamce Qualifier at North Carolina State University.
Sumney, a senior, at NC Greensboro, won the event.
A gold pocket watch owned by Babe Ruth has sold for $650,108 at an auction in Southern California.
SCP Auctions said Sunday that the watch was from the 25th anniversary celebration in 1948 of the opening of Yankee Stadium. The stadium came to be dubbed “The House That Ruth Built” because of the number of fans the baseball legend drew to the venue.
Bradley Wiggins of Britain won the Tour of California on Sunday after holding the lead for the final week.
The 2012 Tour de France winner finished in the pack in 20th place in the eighth and final stage captured by compatriot Mark Cavendish. This was Wiggins’ first title since the seven-day Tour of Britain last September.
Wiggins, who rides for Sky, defeated Australia’s Rohan Dennis of Garmin-Sharp by 30 seconds in the 720-mile race that began May 11 in Sacramento. American Lawson Craddock of Giant-Shimano was third overall, 1 minute, 48 seconds behind.
