Heinz Field to be expanded by 3,000 seats

PITTSBURGH (AP) – The Pittsburgh Steelers and the taxpayer-funded city-county Sports & Exhibition Authority have reached an agreement to add 3,000 seats to Heinz Field for the 2015 season.
The agreement announced Monday ends more than a year of legal wrangling over the project.
Steelers President Art Rooney II said the team will pay the Sports & Exhibition Authority about $2.1 million to pay off a bond that will cover the cost of adding 3,000 seats, a new scoreboard and improvements to the stadium’s control room. Costs have been estimated at $40 million.
The Steelers will add a $1 ticket surcharge starting in 2015 to help pay for the improvements.
Mayor Bill Peduto said he’s pleased the agreement will allow for improvements without taxpayer dollars being used.
Heinz Field now has 65,050 seats.
