JOLIET, Ill. – The only thing that could stop the Wild Things’ offense Tuesday night was rain.

Stewart Ijames and C.J. Beatty hit solo home runs and Washington forged a 6-1 lead over the Joliet Slammers before rain forced the game to be suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning at Silver Cross Field.

The game will be resumed 6 p.m. tonight and be followed by the regularly scheduled contest, which will be shortened to seven innings.

Ijames’ home run started a four-run second inning. Beatty added his fourth homer of the season during the third inning. Jim Vahalik drove in two runs for the Wild Things with a double ands a groundout, Danny Poma had a two-run single and Maxx Garrett was 2-for-2 with two runs.

Washington pitcher Shawn Blackwell allowed two hits and walk over three innings.
