After months of speculation, record-setting South Fayette High School senior quarterback Brett Brumbaugh has chosen where he will play college football.

Brumbaugh announced on his Twitter account Tuesday night that he has accepted a scholarship to play for head coach Jerry Schmitt at Duquesne University. Schmitt is a former head coach at South Fayette.

“Excited to say I’ve committed to Duquesne to play football next year,” Brumbaugh tweeted.

The WPIAL’s all-time leading passer, Brumbaugh led the Lions to the WPIAL Class AA championship and PIAA Class AA title last season.

The youngest of three Brumbaugh brothers who played quarterback in the WPIAL has completed 62 percent of his passes this season for 2,298 yards and 30 touchdowns. The 2013 Observer-Reporter Player of the Year and O-R Athlete of the Year is currently ranked third in PIAA history with 9,450 career passing yards and fourth with 103 touchdown passes.

Duquesne is currently fifth in the Football Championship Series’ Northeast Conference with a 1-2 record in conference play and 5-4 mark overall. The Dukes have six quarterbacks on their roster that are set to return for the 2015 season.

South Fayette is on a 26-game winning streak and is the top seed in the WPIAL playoffs. The Lions advanced last week with a 65-6 victory over Waynesburg. South Fayette will play South Park in the quarterfinals Friday (7:30 p.m.) at Peters Township High School.
