Men’s soccer: Waynesburg, Cal fall in conference tournaments

Grove City defeated visiting Waynesburg 2-1 in double overtime Tuesday afternoon in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals.
The game was decided in the 103rd minute when Wolverines sophomore midfielder Stephen Betteridge managed to slip a shot into the net to send Grove City to the title game against Thomas More.
Second-seeded Grove City (12-6-1) controlled the first half by outshooting the third-seeded Yellow Jackets (9-7-4) 13-3 and took a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 6:11 mark by Dale Reese.
Waynesburg gained the momentum in the second half, when the Yellow Jackets fired off 19 shots. Waynesburg finally found the net when Ray Melone scored to make it 1-1 off a corner kick in the 79th minute.
Waynesburg goalkeeper Brandon Daughtry made 13 saves.
• Ben Alport scored a goal in the 34th minute and Seton Hill hung on to defeat California 1-0 in a PSAC tournament quarterfinal match in Greensburg.
Cal finished the season with a 6-11-1 record. Seton Hill is 12-5-2.
