The South Fayette boys avenged two regular-season losses to Section 5 rival West Allegheny by defeating the Indians 1-0 Saturday in a PIAA Class AA soccer quarterfinal match played at North Allegheny High School.

George Slater scored a goal in the first half and the Lions’ solid defensive play made it stand up as the game-winner. It was the 10th shutout of the season for South Fayette (18-4-1).

West Allegheny (18-5-1) had defeated South Fayette twice during the regular season en route to winning the section title by one game over the Lions.

South Fayette advances to play Lancaster Mennonite in the semifinals Tuesday night. Lancaster Mennonite edged South Park 4-3 in the quarterfinals.
