PITTSBURGH – The Steelers will be getting at least two injured starters back on defense for Sunday’s game at Heinz Field against the New Orleans Saints. But those gains could be offset by the loss of right tackle Marcus Gilbert.

Gilbert is questionable to play for the Steelers (7-4) against the Saints (4-7) after suffering a sprained ankle in a collision with guard Ramon Foster in practice Wednesday.

Gilbert did not practice Thursday or Friday. If he cannot play, Mike Adams would get his second start of the season at right tackle. Adams started in place of an injured Gilbert in a victory over the Colts Oct. 26.

“That’s what they’re paid to do be ready to go,” said Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley. “Mike’s done that. Whichever direction it goes, we’ll feel good about it.”

The Steelers gained a team-record 522 yards against the Colts with Adams at right tackle and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw six touchdown passes in the 51-34 victory. Roethlisberger was not sacked in 49 pass attempts.

In addition to Gilbert, rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier (ankle) is questionable to play against the Saints. Safety Troy Polamalu, who has missed the past two games with a knee injury, and cornerback Ike Taylor, out since Sept. 21 with a forearm fracture, are both listed as probable.

Nose tackle Steve McLendon (shoulder) and cornerback Cortez Allen (thumb) are out.
