Joshua Keyes led four Muskingum players in double figures with 14 points, and Logan Kimble made a key three-point field goal in overtime, as the Muskies outlasted Washington & Jefferson 74-68 Saturday afternoon in the Presidents’ home opener at Henry Memorial Center.

Muskingum (2-3) trailed for the majority of regulation after falling behind 9-0 in the first three minutes. The Muskies were held to only two points in the game’s first 9 1/2 minutes.

W&J (0-6), which led 29-22 at halftime, was led by Mike Resnik’s game-high 21 points. Nick Burk, a 6-6 freshman, had his best game as a collegiate player, scoring 21 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds. Burk was 8-for-8 from the field and made all four of his attempts at the free-throw line. He also had two assists.

Doug Johnson made one of his three baskets from three-point range early in the second half to give the Presidents a 37-25 advantage. However, W&J got into foul trouble and Muskingum began chipping away at the Presidents’ lead. The Muskies took their first lead of the game at 55-54 after two free throws by Ricky Wilson with 4:42 left in regulation. The game was tied at 59-59 after regulation as both teams were held without a field goal in the final 2:21.

Muskingum never trailed in overtime. Kimble’s three-pointer put the Muskies in the lead for good at 66-63 midway through the extra session. A three-point play Resnik pulled W&J to within 71-68, but Muskingum secured the victory at the free-throw line. The Muskies made six of eight three-pointers after halftime.

Christian Keller scored 13 points, Jacob Geller had 12 and Joshua Glass 10 for Muskingum.

W&J continues to play without forward Nate Bellhy, who was the Presidents’ leading scorer last season. Bellhy is sidelined by a groin injury.
