GREENSBURG – Junior forward Beka Bellhy scored a career-high 31 points and Washington & Jefferson led wire-to-wire in defeating host Pitt-Greensburg 69-56 in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon.

W&J (3-1) took control early, using a 10-0 run to forge a 12-2 advantage. The Presidents led by as many as 12 points in the first half before Pitt-Greensburg (3-3) managed to close to within 37-30 at halftime. The Bobcats continued to chip away at the deficit and twice pulled to within three points during the second half, the last time at 47-44 following two free throws by Morgan Biddle with 10:53 remaining.

Biddle scored 16 points and was one of only two UPG players in double figures.

The Presidents finally secured the victory when it put together an 8-1 run that opened a 65-50 lead. Bellhy scored six of W&J’s points during the key stretch and had 19 points during the second half.

Bellhy, who played her high school basketball at Fort Cherry, became only the second W&J player to score at least 30 points in a game since 2006. Chelsea Apke scored 30 against Carnegie Mellon last year. Bellhy made 11 of 20 shots from the field and was 9-for-9 at the free-throw line.

Dannie Medovich scored 11 points for W&J and Valerie Dunlap grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, her third consecutive double-figure rebound total.

Emily Nelson scored 11 points for Pitt-Greensburg.
