McGuffey wins 5th straight

CLAYSVILLE – James Duchi rushed for 124 yards and accounted for three touchdowns Friday night to lead McGuffey to a 43-14 victory over Derry in a Class AA Interstate Conference game.

Duchi caught a 40-yard pass form Nate Whipkey to open the scoring and went over from 2 and 17 yards in a 26-point fourth quarter for McGuffey (4-1, 5-1). Nathan Whipkey completed 8 of 13 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran one in. Whipkey hit Steve Clemens from 48 yards out to close the scoring.

Teague Nicolella kicked a 34-yard field goal to extend McGuffey’s lead to 17-0 in the first quarter.

But Derry cut it to 17-14 when Josh Flack scored on a 16-yard run and Jaymie Howe caught a 15-yard pass from quarterback Trey Friedline 5:46 before halftime. Derry fell to 2-4, including 1-4 in the conference.

Ryan Steinstraw returned a fumble 39 yards for the Highlanders. Marcus Czulewicz and Joe Townsend each had an interception.
