GREENSBURG – One week after quarterback James Harris came close to breaking California’s single-game passing mark, the Vulcans’ running backs paced the attack in a PSAC matchup against Seton Hill.

Terrell Roberson rushed for three touchdowns and Nick Grissom gained 101 yards on 20 carries to lift California over Seton Hill, 31-21.

The Vulcans (3-1, 4-1) trailed early after the Griffins (0-2, 1-4) took a 7-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Drew Jackson to Lenny Dowell. Roberson answered for the Vulcans less than two minutes later on a 5-yard run. He added two more touchdowns on runs of 1 and 20 yards. Harris connected with Kowan Scott on a 26-yard touchdown early in the second quarter as Cal grabbed a 14-7 lead and Cody Nuzzo kicked a 21-yard field goal late in the first half to give Cal the 10-pount lead at the half.

Scott had another strong game for California with five catches for 89 yards, while Harris struggled. The senior quarterback completed just 17 of 35 passes and lost two fumbles.

The two teams traded possesions in the second half until Khalil Garner cut Cal’s lead to three points with a one-yard touchdown run for the Griffins.

Roberson scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns, set up by long runs from Grissom, as Cal pulled away for the win. The Vulcans only needed 192 passing yards and rushed for 183. Seton Hill turned to the passing game as Jackson completed 41 of 77 passes for 354 yards, but only one touchdown.

California lost three fumbles, but the defense was stout; limiting the Griffins to 44 rushing yards on 23 attempts.

The victory is the Vulans’ third in a row with a home game against Slippery Rock set for next Saturday.

Senior quarterback Carter Hill threw five touchdown passes and the Yellow Jackets’ defense allowed Grove City to convert just three first downs as Waynesburg defeated the Wolverines, 35-0, in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game.

On their opening drive, the Yellow Jackets (2-1, 4-1) marched 65 yards and Hill gave them a 7-0 lead on an 18-yard touchdown pass to Bernie Thompson. Hill added touchdown throws of 91, 15, 30 and 8 yards. He completed 20 of 34 passes for 311 yards.

Waynesburg put Grove City (0-2, 0-4) in a hole with three second-quarter touchdowns. Hill threw back-to-back scores to senior running back Willie Leavell, who had four catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Thompson scored his second touchdown of the game with less than two minutes remaining in the first half on a 30-yard strike from Hill. Thompson had six catches for 93 yards.

With a 28-point lead at halftime, Waynesburg put Grove City away early in the third quarter after Hill connected with Andrew Engilsh for a 9-yard touchdown. The Yellow Jackets converted four fourth downs and piled up 469 yards of total offense. While the defense only forced one turnover, Waynesburg dominated time of possession and limited the Wolverines to just three third-down conversions in 15 tries.
