Mapletown beats Bentworth, clinches playoff spot

Dylan Rush had 254 yards and three touchdowns on 37 carries Friday night to lead Mapletown to a 40-21 Tri-County South Conference victory over Bentworth, clinching the Maples a spot in the WPIAL Class A playoffs for the first time since 2005.

Adam Hein added 132 rushing yards and three scores on 14 carries as the Maples (5-2, 5-2) clinched a playoff spot with their victory and Carmichaels’ loss at Frazier.

Josh Hughes completed 10 of 19 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns, one to Ty Mitchell, the other to Phillip Stalhman, for the Bearcats (3-4, 3-4). Stalhman had three catches for 92 yards. Ethan Tush picked up 97 yards on 14 rushing attempts.

Bentworth pulled to within 19-14 early in the third quarter, but Mapletown scored the game’s next three touchdowns.
