Canon-McMillan’s Jake Wilcox and Central Catholic’s Austin Palmer muscle their way for the soccer ball Thursday night.

Tom Iagnemma and Matt Cillo scored goals and the South Fayette boys defeated Ambridge 2-1 Thursday night in the WPIAL Class AA soccer quarterfinals at Moon High School.

Cillo gave South Fayette a 1-0 lead with a goal in the first half, and Iagnemma pushed the Lions’ lead to 2-1.

Ambridge (17-3) pulled to within 2-1 late in the game but could not score the tying goal. South Fayette outshot Ambridge 21-3.

South Fayette advances to the semifinals Monday against top-seeded South Park (20-0), which has scored 12 goals in two playoff victories.

Central Catholic 2, Canon-McMillan 0: Canon-McMillan had its season end with a 2-0 loss to Central Catholic in the Class AAA quarterfinals at Baldwin.

Second-seeded Central Catholic improved to 19-1. Canon-McMillan fell to 13-6-1.
