BLOOMSBURG – Braden Drexler booted a 32-yard field goal on the second possession of overtime to give No. 19-ranked Bloomsburg a 24-21 victory over California in a PSAC game Saturday afternoon.

California (1-1) had forced overtime when Cody Nuzzo booted a 50-yard field as time expired in regulation.

The Vulcans had the first possession of overtime, but quarterback Josh Harris, who completed 23 of 34 passes for 252 yards and two scores, was intercepted. Drexler then booted the game-winning field goal after Bloomsburg (2-0) advanced to the 15-yard line.

Eddie Mateo rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns for Bloomsburg, the defending PSAC champion. Mateo’s second score, a three-yarder run with 6:47 remaining in regulation, gave Bloomsburg a 21-10 lead.

Cal, however, rallied and pulled to within 21-18 after Harris passed 25 yards to Kowan Scott for a touchdown with 4:32 left. Harris and Scott hooked up for a two-point conversion pass.

On the ensuing possession, Bloomsburg stalled at midfield and punted to the Cal five-yard line with 2:01 remaining. The Vulcans then drove to the Bloomsburg 33 to set up Nuzzo’s game-tying field goal. Nuzzo opened the scoring with a 23-yard field goal in the first quarter.

Cal maintained the 3-0 lead until the final minute of the first half. The Vulcans had the ball on their own 31-yard line when they had two consecutive bad snaps from center, the second resulting in a four-yard fumble return for a touchdown by the Huskies’ Alex Dundmore. The play gave Bloomsburg a 7-3 lead at halftime.

Terrell Roberson rushed for 82 yards for California. Desimon Green caught eight passes, including a one-yard TD toss from Harris in the third quarter.

Bloomsburg completed only four of 16 passes for 68 yards. The Huskies have completed only seven passes in two games.
