Week 5 held very few surprises for the high school football landscape. Washington stayed undefeated by knocking off Mount Pleasant in an Interstate Conference game. Tailback Malik Wells had two touchdowns for the Prexies. Ringgold did what was expected, overwhelm Albert Gallatin, 56-7, as Nico Law produced three touchdowns in this Big 9 Conference game. Mapletown cruised to a 28-0 shutout of Avella and held the Eagles 65 yards rushing.

South Fayette gave head coach Joe Rossi his 100th career victory in a 41-7 rout of Carlynton in a Century Conference game. Brett Brumbaugh completed 13 of 15 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns before heading for the bench. Waynesburg drubbed Charleroi, 49-7, but lost running back John-Glen Davis in the process with what appeared to be a knee injury. Beth-Center and McGuffey each scored more than 40 points in wins over West Greene and Brownsvile, respectively.

In a mild surprise, Jefferson-Morgan took a big step to one of the four playoff spots in the Tri-County South Conference by scoring 49 second-half points in a 49-29 victory over Bentworth. Both teams entered the game at 2-2 in the conference. The Rockets returned two fumbles for touchdowns and Joe Headlee scored three times. Canon-McMillan’s first game under new coach Terry George ended in a 34-12 loss to Fox Chapel.
