Zebrasky back; Canon-McMillan beats Carrick

Canon-McMillan head coach Frank Zebrasky returned from suspension and his team celebrated his arrival with a 6-2 victory over Carrick in a Section 5-AAAA road game Monday afternoon.

Matt Mish was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts and was paced by four runs in the first inning. Tanner Piechnick hit a double for the Big Macs (2-1, 5-2) and Chandler Palyas hit a triple. C-M had 10 hits, but continued to struggle defensively with three errors.

Carrick (0-3, 1-4) was held to five hits.

Zebrasky missed the previous three games while the district conducted an investigation into alleged marijuana use by players on a trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Waynesburg 3, Chartiers-Houston 2: Hunter Robinson hit a walk-off RBI triple in the bottom of the ninth inning to send Waynesburg to a 3-2 victory over Chartiers-Houston in a Section 3-AA game.

With the game tied 2-2, Brandon Turchek led off the ninth inning with a walk and Robinson followed with a hard-hit ball off the bottom of the wall in left-center field. He made it to third on a triple, scoring Turchek and earning the Raiders (3-2, 4-3) to their third consecutive win. Trey Rohanna tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI single and Terry Victor earned the victory in relief.

The Bucs (2-1, 2-3) had 10 hits and committed one error.

Washington 5, Frazier 1: Washington was consistent during its 5-1 win over visiting Frazier in Section 2-AA.

The Prexies scored a single run in five of six innings in which they batted. It was enough for winning pitcher Kevin Patterson and relievers Connor Bedillion and Jonathan Spina, who combined on a five-hitter.

Wash High (3-0, 3-1) had nine hits, all singles. Chris Gouin scored two runs to lead the Prexies, who had four hitters with one RBI each.

Frazier fell to 0-4, 0-7.

Carmichaels 17, Mapletown 2: Carmichaels started fast with a nine-run first inning on its way to a 17-2, three-inning Section 1-A win over Mapletown.

Joel Spishock had three hits, three RBI and three runs for the Mikes (1-0, 4-0) and Michael Blasinsky had two singles. Mike Ludrosky earned the win for Carmichaels with three strikeouts and allowed just three hits.

Mapletown (0-3, 0-5) committed six errors.

South Fayette 8, Trinity 5: Logan Sharp tripled and South Fayette hit four extra-base hits in an 8-5 victory over visiting Trinity in Section 3-AAA.

Spencer Barber, Brett Wilher and Justin Foreman each doubled for the Lions (1-0, 2-1). Trinity’s Zach Cain had the game’s big hit, a home run. The Hillers fell to 0-2, 1-7.

West Allegheny 15, McGuffey 0: Connor Johnson threw a one-hitter and also doubled as West Allegheny defeated visiting McGuffey 15-0 in a five-inning Section 3-AAA game.

Dakota Wilkinson started the game with a single for McGuffey (0-3, 0-5) but it was the only hit of the day for the Highlanders. Brandon Pouch and Dan Guilfoil each doubled for West Allegheny (2-0, 5-2).

Bentworth 12, Jefferson-Morgan 11: Nick Silver scored from second base on an infield grounder and error in the bottom of the eighth inning to give host Bentworth a wild 12-1 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in Section 1-A.

Jefferson-Morgan (2-1, 3-4) had forced extra innings by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh.

Ty Mitchell, who entered the game in the fifth inning, was the winning pitcher. Robbie Schultz had a double for Bentworth.

Jake Bissett had a double in the seventh inning for J-M.

Freedom 9, Fort Cherry 3: Winning pitcher Brad Eckman had a big game at the plate and one the mound, leading Freedom to a 9-3 victory over host Fort Cherry in Section 1-AA.

Eckman hit a home run, double and drove in five runs for Freedom (3-2, 5-3) and struck out eight Fort Cherry batters. Anthony Kampian and Shane Turkily each had a double for Fort Cherry (1-2, 2-2).

Brentwood 10, Avella 0: Brandon Mayfield threw a six-inning no-hitter and Tyler Parazino hit a home run as undefeated Brentwood defeated host Avella, 10-0 in Section 1-A.

Tanner Klein and Sean McGlaughlin each doubled for Brentwood (1-0, 4-0), which took advantage of 10 errors by Avella (0-2, 3-3). Mayfield struck out five and walked two.
