High school baseball: Avella’s Paris has big game; C-M rallies for win

Santino Paris threw a one-hitter and drove in five runs as Avella defeated Cornell, 13-0, in a five-inning Section 5-A game Tuesday.
Paris struck out seven and doubled and homered for the Eagles (1-2, 4-3), who had 10 hits.
Stefan Blackstone took the loss for Cornell (0-2, 0-3).
• Canon-McMillan manufactured four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game, then scored the game winner in the bottom of the eighth to hand Baldwin a 7-6 defeat in a Section 5-AAAA game.
A walk and two bunts loaded the bases in the eighth and Connor Coleman drove in the game-winner for the Big Macs (3-1, 6-2) to make a winner out of Clay Martin. Changler Palyas had a double for Canon-McMillan.
Morgan Schmidt had a three-run double for Baldwin (0-2, 2-2), while Dylan Finocchi was the losing pitcher.
• Jacob Greco went 3-for-4 and drove in a run, and Nick Pryor had two hits and a spectacular diving catch in the seventh inning, as Beth-Center held off visiting Charleroi 7-5 in Section 2-AA.
The win improves the Bulldogs to 2-1 in section and 3-2 overall. Charleroi is 0-4, 1-6.
Beth-Center scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Bulldogs led 7-5 in the top of the seventh when Charleroi had a runner on base and one out with Sam Miceli, who had doubled earlier in the game, at the plate. Miceli hit a fly ball that Pryor made a diving catch of as he hit the 346 feet sign on the outfield fence to end the Cougars’ final threat.
Lane Zekir pitched five innings and was the winning pitcher. Tim Terhorst got the last six outs and earned a save.
• Jarrod Potts limited Fort Cherry to two hits over four innings and also drove in five runs as New Brighton defeated Fort Cherry, 15-0, in a Section 1-AA game.
Potts had four hits, including a homer, for New Brighton (2-2, 2-2), which scored eight runs in the first inning.
Fort Cherry fell to 1-3, 2-3.
• Dante Panucci had a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Chartiers Valley to a 5-4 Section 3-AAA win over Trinity.
Luke Horew also doubled for the Colts (3-1, 7-3).
Losing pitcher Dom Neff had a double and three RBI for Trinity (0-3, 1-8).
• Joe Zufall struck out eight and hit a solo home run to lift Bethel Park over Peters Township, 11-6, in Section 5-AAAA.
The Indians (1-2, 6-4) forged a 3-0 lead in the first inning before Zufall’s home run. The Black Hawks (2-1, 4-2) broke out with five uns in the third and fifth innings to pull away.
Brett McIntosh went 2-for-3 with three RBI for Peters Township.
• Tim Kurutz and Hunter Neely combined to pitch a no-hitter as Bentworth defeated Mapletown, 10-0, in a five-inning Section 1-A game.
Kurutz pitched three innings and struck out six, and Neely finished off the game with three strikeouts. Neely also had two doubles and two RBI for the Bearcats (3-0, 6-1).
Mapletown is 0-4 in the section and 0-6 overall.
