Softball: Burns passes 500 strikeouts for Carmichaels

Erica Burns had 13 strikeouts and moved passed 500 for her career in Carmichaels’ 9-1 win over Beth-Center in a Section 2-AA game.
Burns has 506 strikeouts for her career, impressive considering she pitched just six games as a freshman. Emma Lowry went 3-for-4 and had 2 RBI for the Mikes (7-0, 7-2). Laura Walker had a double and two RBI and Caroline Cree had a triple and 2 RBI. Megan Walker and Morgan Faddis each hit a double and Natalie McNett tripled.
Mary Gustovich had a triple for Beth-Center (3-5, 3-5).
• Delaney Elling and Hali Justice both had two RBI to help first-place Trinity defeat McKeesport, 7-1, in a Section 3-AAA game.
The Hillers (7-1, 11-2) did not have an extra-base hit, but they strung together seven singles to overcome three errors. Paige Galentine earned the victory with three strikeouts and allowed just one run.
The Tigers (1-7, 2-8) committed four errors.
• Kassie Kesneck had four RBI and Kaitlyn Dittrich tossed a five-inning, complete game shutout as Chartiers-Houston defeated Mapletown, 10-0, in Section 1-A.
The Bucs (7-0, 12-1) had six doubles and Casey Craig hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to highlight a 14-hit performance for C-H. Mapletown (3-4, 5-4) had six hits, but committed two errors.
• Jaimie Schleicher hit a home run, drove in five runs and struck out seven on the mound to carry Baldwin over Peters Township, 7-3, in a Section 4-AAAA game.
Schleicher went 2-for-3 with two runs, five RBI and earned the victory on the mound, allowing just one earned run to pace Baldwin (5-1, 6-1).
The Indians (3-4, 6-5) stranded 10 runners on base and committed seven errors.
• Bailey Bennington struck out 12 and drove in three runs as West Greene defeated Fort Cherry, 18-2, in a five-inning Section 1-A game.
Bennington went 2-for-5 to pace the Pioneers’ offense and Shelby Morris went 2-for-2 with two RBI. West Greene (3-3, 7-4) had nine hits and did not commit an error. Riley Carter hit a two-run double in the fourth inning for the Rangers (0-6, 0-7).
• Tiffany Markovitch tossed a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts as Brownsville cruised to a 9-0 victory over Washington in Section 2-AA.
The Falcons (4-4, 4-5) scored five runs in the second inning and added three in the seventh, while Markovitch overcame four errors. Morgan Pattison hit a triple for Wash High (0-9, 1-10).
• Sarah Turek had three hits and only needed one inning on the mound to earn the win as Elizabeth Forward defeated Ringgold, 13-2, in a five-inning Section 3-AAA game.
Ashley Hoak also had a double for the Warriors (5-3, 8-4), who had 14 hits. The Rams (0-8, 1-9) committed seven errors and had just three hits.
• Meghan Shultz hit a bases-loaded single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give McGuffey a 3-2 victory over Charleroi in a Section 2-AA game.
Winning pitcher Mariah McGuier had a double for the Highlanders (6-1, 6-1). Jen Tilghman took the loss for Charleroi (2-5, 3-6), despite striking out five.
• Caley Ritts had a double, triple and 4 RBI to propel Burgettstown to a 9-5 victory over Carlynton in a Section 1-AA game.
Cheyenne Winters went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI for the Blue Devils (7-0, 12-1).
Losing pitcher Abby Diulus had a double for the Cougars (1-5, 1-6).
• Waynesburg pounded out 17 hits in a 17-7 victory over Bentworth in a five-inning Section 2-AA game.
Sidney Hare went 4-for-4 with 4 RBI, Gabby Rose went 4-for-4 with 5 RBI and Taylor Staley went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI for the Raiders (3-3, 4-7). Tara Staley hit a home run and Breanna Scott had a double and 2 RBI.
Micaela Danley, Autumn Zgorliski and Chase Watson each hit a double for Bentworth (6-4, 8-6).
• South Fayette scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 win from West Allegheny in a Section 2-AAA game.
Winning pitcher Ashley Iagnemma had two singles and two RBI for the Lions (3-3, 8-5) and Courtney Blocher drove in two more.
Mackenzie Partyka had three hits, including a double, for West Allegheny (4-2, 6-3).
