Baseball: Split decision for W&J, La Roche

Washington & Jefferson split a non-conference doubleheader Sunday against La Roche, winning the opener 4-1 but dropping the second game 7-5.

Bryce Schnatterly pitched a four-hit complete game for his first win in the opener. Michael Ruffing drove in two runs for W&J (23-12).

LaRoche (22-9) scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to overcome a 4-1 deficit in the second game. Nelson McKown had a two-run double in the fifth inning for W&J and the Presidents’ Gavon Rooney had a solo home run in the sixth.
