Boys basketball roundup: Peters Township wins with 4th-quarter comeback

Peters Township went on a 14-0 run to end the game and charged from behind Friday night to defeat Summit Academy 87-77 in a high-scoring first-round game at the Pine-Richland tournament.
The Indians will play the host team in tonight’s championship game.
Summit Academy led 68-64 entering the fourth quarter and still clung to a 77-73 lead with less than four minutes to play. That’s when PT shut down Summit Academy and embarked on its game-winning run.
Nick Valentic led the Indians with a game-high 33 points. He made four of PT’s 10 three-point field goals. Michael Cortese scored 10 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter. Kelson Marisa had 14 points with four three-pointers and Ben Doyle had 13 points.
Ezra Weah led Summit Academy with 23 points, Akheem Harris had 19 and Tony Sprinkle 16.
McGuffey 48, Avella 39: Shaun Sanders scored 20 points and Colin Chapman had a double-double to power McGuffey to the championship game of its own tournament and a 48-39 victory over Avella in the first round.
McGuffey, which will play Chartiers-Houston tonight (8 p.m.) in the final, took control of the game by outscoring Avella 26-14 over the middle quarters. Chapman scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Avella was paced by Cody Dobbin’s 18 points. The Eagles will play Waynesburg in the consolation game at 6 p.m.
Keystone Oaks 83, Fort Cherry 62: Devin Brown scored a game-high 22 points for Fort Cherry but the Rangers didn’t have an answer for hot-shooting Keystone Oaks as the Golden Eagles won 83-62 in the opening round of their own tournament.
Keystone Oaks made 10 three-point field goals and scored 48 first-half points.
Fort Cherry will play OLSH at 5 p.m. today.
Vontey Mitchell led four KO players in double figures with 18 points.
Rob McAnany followed Brown’s game-high point total with 15 points for Fort Cherry. Chad Colussy also hit double figures with 10 points.
Avonworth 69, Burgettstown 30: Garrett Day and Tom Davis combined for 35 points to power Avonworth to a 69-30 victory over Burgettstown in the Antelopes’ tournament.
Avonworth led 22-11 after one quarter and outscored the cold-shooting Blue Devils 19-3 in the second quarter.
Davis scored a game-high 18 points and Day followed with 17.
Mark Shaw paced Burgettstown with 14 points. The Blue Devils will play Sewickley Academy tonight at 8 p.m.
iam Shea scored 21 points to power Carmicahels to a 62-46 win over Jefferson-Morgan.
Blake Conard added 12 points for the mikes.
D.L. Garrett paced J-M with 10 points.
Ringgold 60, Valley 43: Dakota Browning scored 19 points and George Martin 10 to lead Ringgold past Valley in the Mt. Pleasant Tournament.
West Greene 60, Bentworth 43: Colton Rush scored 22 points to lead West Greene past Bentworth, 69-43 in a non-section game.
Craig Weaver added 16 and Nate Brudnock 15 for WG. Steven Harner had a game-high 24 for Bentworth.
Charleroi 84, Mt. Pleasant 48: Sam Miceli scored a game-high 33 points to power Charleroi to amn 84-48 win over Mt. Pleasant in the Mt. Pleasant tournament.
John Arnold added 19 and Eric Tedrow 11 for Charleroi.
California 41, Beth-Center 37: Kass Taylor scored a game-high 16 points to help California defeat Beth-Center 41-37 at the Geibel Catholic Tournament.
The Trojans (1-0) trailed 30-20 at halftime, but allowed only two points in the third quarter and held on for the win.

Chartiers-Houston 66, Waynesburg 64: Cameron Hanley tossed in a game-high 27 points to propel Chartiers-Houston to a 66-64 win over Waynesburg in the McGuffey Tournament.
Darton McIntire paced Waynesburg with 23 points. Mitch Warmen and Rob Miller each scored 12 points.
Upper St. Clair 77, Monessen 69, OT:
Upper St. Clair advanced to the finals of its tournament by outlasting Monessen 77-69 in overtime.
The Panthers won despite a 31-point performance by Monessen guard Lavelle Rush. Justice Rice also had a big game for the Greyhounds with 22 points and Jaden Altomore scored 11.
In other games
Geibel Catholic’s boys team advanced to the championship game of its tournament with a 64-15 rout of Mapletown. No details were made available to the Observer-Reporter.
