Trinity cruises to tournament championship
Trinity had four scorers in double digits, led by Sierra Kotchman’s 18 points, as the Hillers cruised to a 67-20 win over Saltsburg Saturday in the championship game of the Greensburg-Salem tournament Saturday night.
Mary Dunn added 16 points, Alayna Cappelli 13 and Abby O’Connor 10 for the Hillers (2-0), who led 20-4 after one quarter.
Trinity made 20 of 22 free throws in the game.
Alyssa Opopal had eight points to lead Saltsburg (1-1).
Peters Township 50, South Park 43: MVP Madison Kerr had 15 points as Peters Township pulled away from South Park for a 50-43 victory in the championship game of the Peters Township tournament.
Mackenna Marisa added 11 points, while Alyssa Knopka had six steals for the Indians (2-0). Allison McGrath led South Park (1-1) with 20 points.
Charleroi 63, Carmichaels 35: Aislyn Lee had 14 points, 10 assists and 7 steals as Charleroi defeated Carmichaels, 63-35, to win the Charleroi tournament.
Maria Claybaugh added 15 points and 12 steals, while Kaitlyn Riley had a team-high 17 points for the Cougars (2-0).
Kaitlyn Wilson led Carmichaels (1-1) with 10 points.
Jefferson-Morgan 46, Propel Andrew Street 26: Jefferson-Morgan rallied from a six-point deficit at halftime to take a 46-26 victory over Propel Andrew Street in the finals of the Springdale tournament.
Kayla Yorko scored 13 points for J-M (2-0), which outscored Propel Andrew Street, 36-10, over the final two quarters.
Dawn Alexis had 10 for Propel (1-1).
Burgettstown 49, Avella 29: Katie Tarr scored 14 points to lead Burgettstown to a 49-29 win over Avella in the finals of the Avella tournament.
Burgettstown (2-0) jumped to a 14-0 lead after one quarter and outscored Avella (1-1), 30-15, in the second half.
Joelle Gossett led Avella with a game-high 19 points.
Beth-Center 50, Eden Christian 36: Kinlee Whited scored 10 of her career-high 29 points in the third quarter to help Beth-Center pull away from Eden Christian in the consolation game of the Freedom Tournament.
Leading 23-20 at the half, the Bulldogs (1-1) went on a 16-2 run in the third quarter, spurred by Whited’s scoring.
Nichole Hauskins led Eden Christian (0-2) with 19 points.
Washington 44, Knoch 42: Tajah Gordon scored six of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter as Wash High hung on defeat Knoch, 44-42, in the consolation game of the Freeport tournament.
Washington trailed 23-18 at halftime but outscored the Knights 17-10 in the third quarter to take a two-point lead, which the Prexies protected.
Mikala Maltony scored 11 points for Wash High and had nine of the Prexies’ 21 free throws. The teams combined to attempt 71 free throws (33 made).
Emily Fraser led a balanced attack for Knoch with 11 points.
Central Valley 60, McGuffey 46:Krista Sudar scored 21 points on seven three-point field goals to power Central valley to a 60-46 victory over McGuffey in the Montour tournament.
McGuffey’s Katie Demi scored a game-high 23 points and helped the Highlanders win the second and fourth quarters by a combined 36-18 margin. Central Valley, however, won the first and third quarters by a 32-10 clip. McGuffey led 21-19 at halftime before Central Valley took control of the game by outscoring the Highlanders 19-5 in the third quarter.
Bentworth 51, Mapletown 42: Bentworth broke open a close game by outscoring Mapletown 20-9 in the third quarter en route to a 51-42 victory in the consolation game of the Avella tournament.
Grace Marchezak and Heather Chester combined for 37 points for the Bearcats. Marchezak led the way with 20 points and Chester contributed 17 for Bentworth, which led 29-25 at halftime.
Kayla Smith had a huge game for Mapletown, producing a triple-double with a team-high 15 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Abby Antill scored 10 points for the Maples.
Slippery Rock 31, California 20: California had trouble getting its offense going in a 31-20 loss to Slippery Rock, a Class AAA opponent, in the consolation game of the winner’s tournament.
Slippery Rock led 16-6 at halftime and held Cal to three points over the final eight minutes of the game.
Jenna Miller, Marissa Bitonti and Dominque Gaston each scored six points for Cal.
Canon-McMillan 45, Chartiers Valley 39: Cheyenne Trest scored 10 of her 25 points in the decisive fourth quarter as Canon-McMillan rallied to beat Chartiers Valley, 45-39, in the consolation game of the North Alleghney Tournament.
Canon-McMillan (1-1) trailed 23-15 at the half and 32-27 going into the fourth quarter. Kierra King added 14 points for the Big Macs, who got their first win under new head coach Lou Waller.
Mackenzie Wagner had 15 points and Nichole Olkolosky added 10 for Char Valley (0-2).
Chartiers-Houston 63, Geibel Catholic 16: Alexa Williamson had 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals as Chartiers-Houston whipped Geibel Catholic, 63-16, in the consolation game of the Geibel Tournament.
Jayla Walker added 18 points for the Bucs (1-1), who went on a 23-2 run to open the second half.
Gabby Yourish had eight points to lead Geibel (1-1).
Steel Valley 52, Fort Cherry 35: Morgan Farrah had 18 points to lead Steel Valley past Fort Cherry in the Montour Tournament.
Katie Giobanni added 10 points for Steel Valley (1-1), which led 33-16 at the half.
Shannon Relihan scored 15 points and Mackenzie Faure 14 for Fort Cherry (0-2).
Monessen 34, Clairton 18: Monessen shut Clairton out in the first half, building a 19-0 lead en route to a 34-18 victory in the consolation game of the Charleroi Tournament.
Natalie Holmes had eight points, while Alana Duncan and Sydney Fencik had 10 rebounds each for Monessen (1-1).
Jacquela Gaynor scored seven points to lead Clairton (0-2).
Friday’s games
Keystone 56, California 35: Keystone forged a 13-point halftime lead and ran away with a 56-35 victory over California at the Slippery Rock tournament.
Bailey Vig had a team-high 13 points for the Trojans (0-1), who trailed 26-13 lead at halftime and drew to within nine points at the end of the third quarter. Dominique Gaston had eight points for Cal and Jenna Miller was held to two.
West Greene 77, Waynesburg 45: McKenna Lampe and Madison Lampe combined for 43 points as West Greene ran away with a 77-45 win over Waynesburg in a non-section game.
McKenna Lampe had a team-high 23 and Madison added 20. Marissa Rhode finished with 11 points for the Pioneers (1-0), who outscored the Raiders, 30-4, in the fourth quarter. Kirsten Garber scored a team-high 21 points for Waynesburg (0-1) and Celine Monica added 14.
Burgettstown 53, Bentworth 31: Kacie Prasko scored 21 points to lead Burgettstown to a 53-31 victory over Bentworth in the Avella tournament.
Malia Castellino added 15 points for the Blue Devils. Katie Tarr grabbed 10 rebounds.
Heather Chester and Grace Marchezak each added 11 points for the Bearcats.
Ringgold 42, McGuffey 36: Bailey Cooper scored 25 points to send Ringgold to a 42-36 win over McGuffey in the Montour tournament.
Katie Demi scored 25 of the Highlanders’ 36 points.
