Girls basketball: Wash High rolls; Charleroi still undefeated

Three players eclipsed 15 points and Wash High scored 49 points in the first half Tuesday night on its way to a 72-30 win over Aliquippa in a non-section game.
Torri Finley had 21 points, Tajah Gordon had 19 and Mikayla Maltony added 16 for the Prexies (2-1), who led by 30 points at halftime despite making just 11 of 27 free throws. The Quips (1-3) were led by Shania Walker’s 10 points.
Charleroi 67, Yough 22: Maria Claybaugh scored a game-high 21 points and Charleroi remained unbeaten with a 67-22 victory over Yough in a non-section game.
The Cougars (3-0) led by 25 points at halftime and had eight players score. Kyra Watkins had 16 points for Charleroi and Kaitlyn Riley chipped in 10. The 22 points were a season-high for Yough (0-4), which was led by Megan Vento’s seven points.
Canon-McMillan 51, North Hills 47: Cheyenne Trest scored a game-high 22 points and Canon-McMillan won its second consecutive game under new head coach Lou Waller as the Big Macs held off visiting North Hills 51-47 in a non-conference game.
The Big Macs (2-1) trailed 19-10 after one quarter but took the lead into halftime by outscoring the Indians 13-2 in the pivotal second quarter. The Big Macs protected the lead by making 10 of 14 free throws in the game.
Kierra King also scored in double figures for C-M with 11 points. Jamie Holleran paced North Hills (1-2) with 21 points.
Carmichaels 45, Mapletown 21: Sophomore guard Megan Walker had a game-high 17 points to help Carmichaels defeat Mapletown, 45-21, in a non-section game.
The Mikes (2-2) made seven three-pointers, including two by junior guard Kaitlyn Wilson, who finished with nine points. Carmichaels led by 18 points at halftime and did not allow more than nine points in a quarter.
The Maples (0-4) were led by Abby Antill’s eight points.
Frazier 45, California 40: Another slow start kept California winless as its two-point first quarter led to a 45-40 loss to Frazier in a non-section game.
The Trojans (0-3) were just 10 of 17 at the free throw line and were outscored 10-2 in the first quarter. They trailed 10 points at halftime and scored 18 points in the fourth quarer, but the Commodores (2-1) sealed the win at the line. Dominique Gaston led Cal with 17 points, while Bailey Vig and Marissa Bitoni each had eight.
Brooke Poling had 20 points for Frazier.
