W&J women push winning streak to 7 with rout of Thiel

GREENVILLE – Ashley Mikelonis came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points Tuesday night and spark Washington & Jefferson to its seventh consecutive victory, 81-50, over host Thiel in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game.
The win moved the Presidents into first place in the conference.
W&J (3-0, 7-1) trailed 19-18 after one quarter, then the Presidents’ defense took control and held Thiel (0-3, 0-8) to only 31 points over the remainder of the game.
The Presidents had 13 players in the scoring column. Mikelonis made three of five shots from three-point range and W&J shot 48 percent from the field. Amirah Moore had 12 points and four assists, and Beka Bellhy scored 11 points.
Jess Vormelker scored a game-high 23 points for Thiel. Vormelker attempted 19 three-pointers, making five. The Tomcats shot only 29 percent from the field.
