HS basketball: Williamson, Walker lead C-H to win
Alexa Williamson and Jala Walker combined for 39 points to lead Chartiers-Houston past Avonworth, 57-36, in a non-section game Saturday afternoon.
Williamson had a game-high 25 points with 11 rebounds, and Walker had 14 points with eight assists for the Bucs (3-1), who held the Antelopes to 16 total points in the middle quarters. C-H made 19 of 29 free throws and led by nine points at halftime. Avonworth (0-5) was led by Liisa Vanttinen’s 12 points.
• Burgettstown scored 20 points in the first quarter and held Waynesburg to 10 points in the middle quarters on its way to a 49-34 non-section win.
Kacie Prasko had 18 points and Kate Tarr added 10 for the Blue Devils (4-1), who led 26-17 at halftime and held the Raiders (0-3) to six third-quarter points. Kirsten Garber had 18 points for Waynesburg.

Cody Dobbins sparked Avella’s 45-point first half and finished with 22 points in the Eagles’ 72-46 win over Mapletown in a Section 3-A game Friday night.
Shawn Willard added 11 points for Avella (1-0, 1-3), which helped head coach Drew Denham win his first game against his alma mater and snapped a 22-game losing streak. Denham was a 1,000-point scorer at Mapletown and is the school’s all-time assists leader. The Eagles led 45-17 at halftime and held the Maples (0-4) to nine points in the third quarter.
Mapletown was led by Alix Gennette’s 18 points and Dustin Lemley added 11.
