Pitt OC Jim Chaney leaves for same job at Georgia
ATLANTA (AP) — New Georgia coach Kirby Smart has hired Pittsburgh’s Jim Chaney as offensive coordinator.
Smart also has hired Sam Pittman from Arkansas as offensive line coach and Alabama’s Glen Schumann as a defensive assistant.
Chaney was Pitt’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Schumann was Alabama’s director of player personnel and defensive analyst. Pittman was the offensive line coach at Arkansas. Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi released a statement thanking Chaney.
“On behalf of our entire program, I would like to thank Jim for his contributions to Pitt,” Narduzzi said. “His work was very important as we established our program in this first year. In addition to being an excellent football coach, he is a tremendous person and we wish him and his family the very best.”
Chaney is a 30-year coaching veteran with previous experience in the Southeastern Conference. He coached at Pitt this season following two years at Arkansas. He also has served as offensive coordinator at Tennessee (2009-12), Purdue and Cal State Fullerton.
Chaney also spent three years in the NFL as an offensive assistant with the St. Louis Rams from 2006-08.
